It’s been a while since I posted on our family blog; Naomi and I have been doing a lot of travel, the details of which you can find on my retirement blog, Sailing to Byzantium.
As we’ve traveled I’ve been experimenting with self-hosting various things; essentially using our own home computing equipment to serve applications and services that would otherwise be provided by others. Think of things like OneDrive/iCloud, Audible, Kindle, Trello and things like that.
My most recent success is creating my own self-hosted social media instance that interacts with other social media tools like Mastodon, BlueSky, Threads… anything that uses the ActivityPub protocol to communicate on the Internet. (Nerds call the constellation of these services the “Fediverse”, and it’s huge.)

So, to find me on social media these days, you can just head over to social.txcolliers.net/@tartan in your web browser. And if you want to create your own Mastodon account, I encourage you to check out this page that explains what Mastodon is and how to get started.
