{"id":92,"date":"2022-07-24T18:04:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-24T18:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/txcolliers.net\/biblestudy\/?p=92"},"modified":"2022-07-24T18:04:24","modified_gmt":"2022-07-24T18:04:24","slug":"parable-of-the-tenants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/txcolliers.net\/biblestudy\/?p=92","title":{"rendered":"Parable of the Tenants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Mark 11:27-33\n<strong>The Authority of Jesus Questioned (Tuesday of Holy Week)<\/strong>\n11:27-33pp \u2013 Mt 21:23-27; Lk 20:1-8\nThey arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. \u201cBy what authority are you doing these things?\u201d they asked. \u201cAnd who gave you authority to do this?\u201d\nJesus replied, \u201cI will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John\u2019s baptism\u2013was it from heaven, or from men? Tell me!\u201d\nThey discussed it among themselves and said, \u201cIf we say, \u2018From heaven,\u2019 he will ask, \u2018Then why didn\u2019t you believe him?\u2019 But if we say, \u2018From men\u2019 . . . .\u201d (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)\nSo they answered Jesus, \u201cWe don\u2019t know.\u201d\nJesus said, \u201cNeither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.\u201d<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Why did the religious leaders challenge Jesus?<\/li><li>Clearly, Jesus COULD have answered their question with a declaration of his authority. Why do you think he replied the way he did?<\/li><li>Why would the leaders not answer Jesus&#8217; question that he posed in response?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Mark 12:1-12\n<strong>The Parable of the Tenants<\/strong>\n12:1-12pp \u2013 Mt 21:33-46; Lk 20:9-19\nHe then began to speak to them in parables: \u201cA man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey. At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.\n\u201cHe had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, \u2018They will respect my son.\u2019\n\u201cBut the tenants said to one another, \u2018This is the heir. Come, let\u2019s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.\u2019 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.\n\u201cWhat then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. Haven\u2019t you read this scripture:\n\u201c \u2018The stone the builders rejected\nhas become the capstone ;\nthe Lord has done this,\nand it is marvelous in our eyes\u2019 ?\u201d\nThen they looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Who are the principal characters in the parable?
