Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, \u201cThe Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.\u201d But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.\n\n(9:33-37pp \u2013 Mt 18:1-5; Lk 9:46-48)\nThey came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, \u201cWhat were you arguing about on the road?\u201d But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.\nSitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, \u201cIf anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.\u201d\nHe took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, \u201cWhoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.\u201d<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How was the start of this journey with the disciples different than others?  Why do you think the disciples were unwilling to ask Jesus to clarify his teaching?<\/li><li>What was the unexpected teaching that Jesus provided following the disciples&#8217; dispute?<\/li><li>What point was Jesus making when he spoke of &#8220;welcoming a little child in His name&#8221;?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><strong>Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us<\/strong>\n9:38-41pp \u2013 Lk 9:49, 50\n\u201cTeacher,\u201d said John, \u201cwe saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.\u201d\n\u201cDo not stop him,\u201d Jesus said. \u201cNo one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us. I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What was the issue that the disciples brought to Jesus?<\/li><li>What are the implications of Jesus&#8217; response on us today?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Mark 9:42-50\n<strong>Causing to Sin<\/strong>\n\u201cAnd if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where\n\u201c \u2018their worm does not die,\nand the fire is not quenched.\u2019\n\nEveryone will be salted with fire.  \u201cSalt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.\u201d<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This is the reverse of the previous teaching. What is the warning that Jesus provides to his disciples, and to us today?<\/li><li>Is this a literal command? Why or why not? What is the implication on a follower of Christ?<\/li><li>What is the teaching regarding salt and fire?
