Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, \u201cI have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.\u201d\nHis disciples answered, \u201cBut where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?\u201d\n\u201cHow many loaves do you have?\u201d Jesus asked.\n\u201cSeven,\u201d they replied.\nHe told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people, and they did so. They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them. The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. About four thousand men were present. And having sent them away, he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.\nThe Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, \u201cWhy does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to it.\u201d Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How is this story similar to the feeding of the five thousand? How is it different? Are there any additional insights\/lessons you can learn from it?<\/li><li>Why did the Pharisees go to see Jesus? Why did they want to see a sign? Why did He not give them a sign?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Mark 8:14-21\n<strong>The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod<\/strong>\nThe disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. \u201cBe careful,\u201d Jesus warned them. \u201cWatch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.\u201d\nThey discussed this with one another and said, \u201cIt is because we have no bread.\u201d\nAware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: \u201cWhy are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don\u2019t you remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?\u201d\n\u201cTwelve,\u201d they replied.\n\u201cAnd when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?\u201d\nThey answered, \u201cSeven.\u201d\nHe said to them, \u201cDo you still not understand?\u201d<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What may have stimulated Jesus to talk about the \u201cleaven\u201d of the Pharisees and Herod? What do you think he was referring to?<\/li><li>What does leaven generally represent in the Bible? In this case is it good or bad?<\/li><li>How did the disciples interpret Jesus&#8217; statement?<\/li><li>Did they finally understand?
