{"id":37,"date":"2022-02-24T14:27:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T14:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/txcolliers.net\/biblestudy\/?p=37"},"modified":"2022-04-18T00:25:42","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T00:25:42","slug":"mark-139-212","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/txcolliers.net\/biblestudy\/?p=37","title":{"rendered":"Mark 1:39 &#8211; 2:12"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Healing a Leper and a Paralytic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><strong>A Man Cleansed<\/strong>\nMark 1:39-45 \nHe went into all of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. Then a man with leprosy came to him and, on his knees, begged him, \u201cIf you are willing, you can make me clean.\u201d Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched him. \u201cI am willing,\u201d he told him. \u201cBe made clean.\u201d Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. Then he sternly warned him and sent him away at once, telling him, \u201cSee that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.\u201d Yet he went out and began to proclaim it widely and to spread the news, with the result that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. But he was out in deserted places, and they came to him from everywhere.\n\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>What do you see in Jesus&#8217; encounter with the man with leprosy? What is the connection between leprosy and cleanliness?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Why does Jesus tell the man not to say anything to anyone about this?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><strong>The Son of Man Forgives and Heals<\/strong>\n\u200bMark 2:1-5 \nWhen he entered Capernaum again after some days, it was reported that he was at home. So many people gathered together that there was no more room, not even in the doorway, and he was speaking the word to them. They came to him bringing a paralytic, carried by four of them. Since they were not able to bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and after digging through it, they lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying. Seeing their faith, Jesus told the paralytic, \u201cSon, your sins are forgiven.\u201d<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Why does Jesus not simply heal the paralytic?\u00a0 Why does he say &#8220;your sins are forgiven&#8221;? Is there a connection between the man&#8217;s physical and spiritual condition?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Mark 2:6-12 \nBut some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts: \u201cWhy does he speak like this? He\u2019s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?\u2009\u201d\nRight away Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, \u201cWhy are you thinking these things in your hearts? Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, \u2018Your sins are forgiven,\u2019 or to say, \u2018Get up, take your mat, and walk\u2019? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins\u201d\u2009\u200b\u2014\u2009\u200bhe told the paralytic\u2009\u2014 \u201cI tell you: get up, take your mat, and go home.\u201d\nImmediately he got up, took the mat, and went out in front of everyone. As a result, they were all astounded and gave glory to God, saying, \u201cWe have never seen anything like this!\u2009\u201d <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Why were the religious leaders (the &#8220;scribes&#8221;) scandalized by this healing?\u00a0 What were they expecting?\u00a0 Why did they react the way they did?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>What was the end result of this healing?\u00a0 What was the purpose of Jesus healing the paralytic?<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Healing a Leper and a Paralytic A Man Cleansed Mark 1:39-45 He went into all of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
