The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and kill him. \u201cBut not during the Passover celebration,\u201d they agreed, \u201cor the people may riot.\u201d<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When did the events described here happen?<\/li><li>What was the significance of the Passover?<\/li><li>What do you think of the religious leaders&#8217; reasoning here?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark 14:3-9<br>Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over his head.<br>Some of those at the table were indignant. \u201cWhy waste such expensive perfume?\u201d they asked. \u201cIt could have been sold for a year\u2019s wages and the money given to the poor!\u201d So they scolded her harshly.<br>But Jesus replied, \u201cLeave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me? You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me. She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time. I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman\u2019s deed will be remembered and discussed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Who were the attendees at this meal?  Why do you think this was significant?<\/li><li>A similar scene is found in Luke 7:36-50.  Do you think this describes the same event, or different events? Why?<\/li><li>What similarities do you find between this account and the account of the widow and the two copper coins (Mark 12:41-44)?<\/li><li>What do you think of the objections raised? What was Jesus&#8217; response?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Mark 14:10-11\nThen Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests to arrange to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted when they heard why he had come, and they promised to give him money.
